The Lost Villages Brewery began as an idea in a basement during the COVID 19 lockdowns. With nothing else to do, owners John Wright and Mat Camm began building a home brewing system that would take them on a journey from basement brewing to brewery success.
Longtime curling friend Kevin Baker joined John and Mat for many basement brewing session where the idea to open a brewery was concocted while enjoying some experimental home brews. Soon they were looking at buildings in the area and fell in love with an old building that had some charm despite needing extensive work.
The boys pulled the trigger and began planning for what would eventually become the Lost Villages Brewery. Early designs began to form as the demolition of the old building began. Early concepts began to emerge and a clear direction for the brewery took shape.
Construction began in the spring of 2021 with hopes of opening in the spring of 2022. As they began tearing down walls it became apparent the building needed more work than expected. With building costs at an all time high the project became difficult to keep within budget.
Thankfully with some crafty planning and some good old elbow grease, the brewery construction completed and looked even better than initially conceived.
The brewery has now been open for nearly two years and it's growth and popularity have exceeded expectations. It is home to many cool events like Open Mic competitions, Comedy nights, local musical performances, outdoor markets and a huge upcoming festival.
The owners are appreciative of the local support from it's great patrons to the partnerships with other local businesses as well as the support from the municipality, regional tourism boards, and the provincial and federal governments.
Cheers to many more years of heritage inspired brews.
